Tired, numb, heavy, unfocused, tired, can’t sleep, sad, worried, hopeless, tired, forgetful, weak… did I mention tired? These are just some of the emotion you go through during a depression. (Sigh!!!:-/ ) But don’t worry, there is a way out.

Depression: The state of feeling very unhappy and without hope for the future.

You can’t go anywhere today without meeting someone who had depression in their life. It might be themselves or their family and friends who have suffered.

World Health Organization estimates (Statement from April 2016) that 350 million people worldwide are affected by depression. The condition varies from short to long period of times. Especially the intense and long lasting depressions can become a serious health condition.

It is terrible condition (I know, I’ve been there). However there are ways to get out of depression. Here are the first few things you need to look at:

A depression is nothing more than a dark cloud covering your view. But know that the sun is always there with you, right behind the cloud.  Remember you are not the cloud.  You are not the depression. It is just passing through. Let it be and let it go.

Acceptance

Acceptance of the depression is a must. It can be hard at first, but the more you fight it, the harder it will get. Always remember depression is not you, it’s not even a part of you. It is however a condition and it will pass by.

The reasons

There is always one reason for a depression. That's what you need to look at. It might be long term stress or worry that coursed it, or a traumatic event in life. You need to go back and look at your life and what the reason could be.

Suppression leads to depression

Most of us are so used to pushing problems, heartaches, traumatic events aside, but suppression only leads to depression later on in life.  You have to deal with whatever caused the depression in the first place before you can move on.

Pills or not

I am not a doctor, so if you are on any medicine for depression and want to stop, I recommend you to speak to your doctor first. To be honest I don’t believe in pills as a solution for anything. I know some of my friends have taken them during depression. Some it helped and some it didn’t. You should only do what you are comfertable with. Personally I think the pills make you more tired, addictive, and in the end of the day they only cover up the problem, they don't solve it.

We are all different

We are all different and chose different methods on how to deal with depression. In this blog series I will go through what worked for me and some of my closest friends.
