This picture is one of my most recent transformations. I find that we as a society have become such a wasteful lot. It wasn't until recently that I began going to thrift shops in the Denver suburb area that I realized just how wasteful we really are. Finding treasures in the nearby thrift stores has now become a way to not only recycle and reuse items ranging from clothes to furniture, but it has become an amusing past time.

In fact, so much so, that what began as a past time, is now, a fulltime hobby and a profitable business. Who would have 'thunk' it! I've always had a bit of an eye for home decorating.  I began noticing as I walked around these stores, furniture pieces that were in very good condition.  The funny thing is, at first I didn't even notice them but it's as though the pieces began whispering to me saying 'hey lady, look at me, I'm not too shabby if you give me a little love'.

Surprisingly, I found myself buying a few small furniture pieces and refinishing them. Like magic, these pieces began to be transformed, one by one into stunning focal points and I was quite surprised.  I decided I'd try my hand at refinishing a chair that was yelling to go home with me. There it was, all alone as if it was waiting for me. The next thing I knew, I was asking the manager how much the chair was priced for. Five bucks. Well, I couldn't pass it up and the rest is history. Who would have imagined all the oohs and aahs when I finished painting that chair! She went from unnoticed to the focal point of the extra bedroom and a conversational piece at that!

Pinterest was where I got my inspiration. Chalk paint became one of my best friends. I started reading and watching YouTube tutorials on how to use it.  Quickly I found out that Annie Sloan chalk paint is quite popular and often times a favorite.  The quality of paint found in Annie Sloan paint is fantastic. I would recommend that you try a few other brands just to see what you think. I have found other comparable paints and have experimented with different brands, but I do have to say Annie Sloan's paint products are easy to use and prices are affordable.

Now that refinishing furniture has now become one of my passions, I decided to incorporate it into a way of making a profit and sharing some of these newfound beauties with others.  There are several ways to earn from painting furniture but here are two specific ways:

1. Buy from thrift shops, garage sales, or auctions at ridiculously low prices and then flip the pieces for a profit.

2. Blog about topics and tips so that others can learn from your experience, and then refer your audience (readers) to an affiliate company that pays you for referring people to them.  Affiliate marketing can be extremely profitable.

3. Sell paint products and tools that you like on your blog website.  You don't have to stock the products, you simply sign up as an affiliate with the company and you receive a commission when someone orders from your website.

There are other ways to earn an income from blogging about your hobby, your passion, your family, or whatever you want to blog about. The first step is getting an education on how to start your own online business (aka in this case, blogging about painting furniture).
