"I think anything is possible if you have the mindset and the will and desire to do it and put the time in." Roger Clemens -Growth Mindset Quotes

Times have changed and thanks to the flourishing digital economy and the user-friendly technologies, we have at our fingertips many choices and the freedom to take control of our lives.

But while we enjoy all this freedom of choice and we have all the right tools and training to break free from a traditional job and build a profitable online business to suits our ideal lifestyle, our biggest obstacle is our own mindset that is keeping us clinched to our comfort zone, even when it is not making us happy.

I have been escaping from the traditional patterns learned from the past. Back then, we were bound to a particular location and held to the same job for years but not enthusiastic about the job we were doing.

It was until I discovered personal development that I understood that to accomplish the lifestyle that brings to fruition everything we want,  relies entirely on our beliefs, habits, passion levels and drive.

More than likely, you are well aware of this too, but if you are like me, you know it is not an easy task to keep directing your thoughts to more and more things that you do want, only because the old habit patterns keep reappearing in our mind.

As my mission in life is to empower people to live happy lives by providing the tools on how to create a lifestyle and business they love, I would like to share how it is possible to gradually change the direction of your thoughts and live your life on our own terms.

Different steps have been helping me to gently take control of my thoughts. In this blog post, I will start with one of the most important steps.

FOCUS ONLY ON THE GOOD THAT YOU DESIRE

I spent many years focusing on worries and disappointments and very rarely appreciating the things that were actually going well for me.

While it has taken me a while to train my thoughts to more positive aspects, the first thing I understood is that we can't expect a drastic change in a short time when we have been practising negative thoughts for years.

Having a negative or positive mindset is a choice. By spending a little time each day appreciating what is and visualising what you would like to experience in your life, you will eventually begin to notice subtle changes around you.

Abraham-Hicks' teachings recommend: "Rather than trying so hard to erase the past, focus on the present. Give thought to what you now want."

HOW TO START CHANGING NEGATIVE THOUGHT PATTERNS?

Meditation is an excellent way to start. It allows you to relax and train your mind to redirect your thoughts. It helps you to improve awareness of yourself and your surroundings.

It also helps you to observe your thoughts so that you are less controlled by them. When you detach from your thoughts and become more like an observer, you will be a much calmer, much more appreciative and more effective person.

I will share some of the tips I have taken from some of my mentors. I have been applying some of them, and I have noticed a gradual and effective change in the way I perceive everything around me.

LET'S HAVE A LOOK AT SOME OPTIONS:

Before getting out of bed take a few minutes to think of three things you appreciate and three things that you would like to achieve in your life and your business.

Quiet your mind by doing some meditation first thing in the morning. I have been following for years. The Getting into the Vortex Guided Meditations by Esther and Jerry Hicks. There are four choices:

  • General Well-Being Meditation
  • Financial Abundance Meditation
  • Physical Well-Being Meditation
  • Relationships Meditation

Each meditation lasts 15 minutes, and you choose the best that suits your circumstances at the time. Sit comfortably and upright with your eyes closed to avoid any distraction. Allow your breathing pattern to gently but naturally relax into the soothing breathing.

When new to meditation, most people start with a few minutes of quietness and contemplation.

Music is another form of meditation. This has worked best for me when I know I need to do administrative work. It is a task that I don't necessarily enjoy, but when I listen to the song Rise by Herb Alpert, it definitely puts me in a happy mood.

Other people, enjoy listening to their favourite song for 3 to 4 minutes without doing anything in particular. Just the fact that they are enjoying the music without anyone guiding them through it has been useful for many people. I appreciate it at night time when I am ready to sleep, It works wonders for me.

Other meditations that you might find helpful are:

  • A guided meditation by Sam Harris
  • Tara Brach Leads a Guided Meditation: Opening and Calming.

If you find it difficult to start getting into meditation, keep in mind that it will help you improve your concentration, self-awareness, encourage a healthy lifestyle, increase happiness, slow ageing as well other benefits.

Hopefully, this blog post has been of benefit to you. In my next blog, I will talk about the incredible benefits of core value and goals.
