How to deal with off-days?

I am absolutely sure that everyone reading this post has experienced a time when you don't feel like doing the work, it's raining outside, you're tired and being between the pillows seems like a very attractive option.

Me personally, I have definitely felt that way from time to time and I suppose it's natural. Just like in nature there are some rainy days, human-beings have some off-days. So what do you do about them?

First of all, remeber the main reason why do you have to get the necessary things done today. If you zoom out to the bigger picture i.e. your main dreams and goals in life, then it can be a very effective way to get the distractions out of the way and the focus back on the main thing.

Secondly, just remember that you can live this day only once and when it's midnight you will never get to live that day again. That might sound a bit harsh, but that's the way it is. So any progress that you make today is a clear advantage over those who decide to stay between the pillows.

The third point that I'd like to cover is how you feel. If you decide to take a day off, knowing that there's a lot of work to do, you might feel a bit better initially. But in the long run, say at the end of the day, it's the other way around. You'll feel miserable. You know that you have just wasted a day that you cannot get back. On the other hand, if you pull yourself together and get things done even though you don't feel like it, you'll feel fantastic. It's empowering to know that you are a person of character and strong will.

So my recommendation is to think about these three things when you have an off-day. Your big goals, the fact that you can't relive that day and how you feel about yourself.

Talk to you soon,

Richard Pulst
